Second Tree

Second Tree currently works at three refugee sites: Katsikas refugee camp, Agia Eleni refugee accommodation site, and a community centre in Ioannina that caters to the urban refugee population.

 

The project works with refugees from approximately 24 different countries but the main make-up of the refugee population in Epirus is Afghani, Syrian, and Iraqi.

  • What will I be doing?

    You will take part in one or more of the following programmes: 

    • Adult English Language Programme
    • Youth Greek Language Programme
    • Youth English Language Programme
    • Youth Workshop Activities

     

    You might also support them in other departments of the organisation:

    • Fundraising & Grants
    • Digital Communications 
    • Logistics & Administration

     

    The roles vary depending on what programme you apply for, we value flexibility and a willingness to get involved as much as you can. Many volunteers end up working in at least two departments. This means that in addition to your main role you have the opportunity to get involved in other areas that may interest you.

     

    Volunteers are expected to be organised and responsible and to take initiative in their work.

  • What impact would I have?

    A big one! Second Tree has been working with the refugee population in Epirus for over 4 years and haas built up extremely strong bonds with the community there.

  • Who will I be working with?

    You will be working alongside other volunteers and team members from diverse backgrounds and countries. Being a small grassroots organisation, it is a close-knit team that highly values open and honest feedback with each other and a good sense of humor.

  • Minimum age

    18 Years 

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation is usually provided in shared houses. Transportation is provided to and from work.

     

    After completion of a three-month trial, if you commit long-term, we offer a small monthly expenses refund.

  • Extra Costs

    • Travel to and from Ioannina
    • The whole team uses FROG Sim cards (so they get free minutes to one another), which can be purchased in Greece upon arrival for €5
