Yoga and Sports for Refugees
Yoga and Sports for Refugees (YSFR) wants to empower refugees and migrants through sport, integrate them into the community, and improve their physical and mental health so that they find a way out of monotony, frustration and stagnation of their current situation. In addition, one of their fundamental objectives is to get refugees from being users of sports activities to trainers in charge of their own projects, so that they can be integrated into the community and gain security and self-confidence. The projects activities break with ethnic and religious barriers, generating a meeting space and cooperation between cultures where everyone participates.

What will I be doing?
Volunteers fall into two different groups:
- Volunteers from the community and from abroad who have a particular sport skillset that they can teach. For example trained teachers in yoga, football, swimming, martial arts or other.
- International volunteers who have a general enthusiasm for sport and want to help with everything. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: Teaching group sports such as swimming or running, taking part in sports classes taught by other teachers, helping with logistics for classes, such as handing or clothes and shoes to borrow or food afterwards, arranging donations, representing YSFR at external meetings and events, assisting with fundraising and assisting with social media.
What impact would I have?
YSFR is a unique organisation in Greece and the only one focussing purely on sports on the Greek islands. Refugees live in squalid conditions with little opportunity to enjoy themselves, do anything fun or do any exercise. We offer around 15 different sports to around 200 students per week. We see students every day, at the best part of the day and our volunteers create that!
