Project Nadiya

Project Nadiya

We are a project of Europe Cares e.V. with the aim to support people in Ukraine with aid supplies, which are distributed through green corridors to where they are most needed. Within a very short time we have built up a valuable infrastructure through which donations are brought to the places in Ukraine where they are needed the most. As part of a large solidarity network, we accept donations in kind at our warehouse in Slovakia. We then sort them and load them into the vans of our Ukrainian partners, who regularly take the goods across the border, where they are further distributed throughout the country. We organise the logistics, clarify the specific need for donations and communicate them into our networks back home.

Inspired by the unwavering hope and resilience of our Ukrainian partners, we named our project after the Ukrainian word for hope: NADIYA. We act in solidarity with all people affected by the war in Ukraine.

  • Where is it?

    Michalovce, Slovakia

Our warehouse is located in Michalovce, close to  the Slovak-Ukrainian border. Our partners are located in Uzhorod, Ukraine and their network reaches ann throughout Ukraine. Our support team operates mainly from Germany.

  • What will I be doing?

In order for our project to function sustainably, we need new volunteers on a regular basis who can take care of the warehouse in Slovakia. Your tasks on site include in particular the receiving of aid transports to the warehouse and loading of aid shipments to Ukraine. The main task is to make sure that the donations are packed correctly. If necessary, the donations have to be re-sorted. In this way, we can relieve our Ukrainian partners of a lot of work. In addition to the warehouse work, there is also the coordination and acquisition of the deliveries. This includes maintaining contact with incoming donations in Slovakia and, in the next step, making arrangements with our Ukrainian partners for further transport across the border. Since we work closely with our local partners as well as with our donors, it is important to maintain these contacts in close consultation with the support-team.

  • What impact would I have?

As a Project Nadiya volunteer, you will make an important contribution to ensuring that aid continues to reach where it is needed most - in the country itself. Meeting a friendly face in Slovakia  plays an important role in strengthening the confidence of our donors that the supplies will reach the right places. Even more important is that your work relieves our Ukrainian partners, who can concentrate on other things. Like this, your volunteer work enables important donations to reach the right places like hospitals, communities etc. As a volunteer with Project Nadiya, you will be supporting people in Ukraine who are in need through no fault of their own.

  • Who will I be working with?

As a volunteer at Project Nadiya you interact at the  important interface between the incoming donations and their distribution in Ukraine. Thus, you are in contact with the people who bring donations and you are also in close consultation with our Ukrainian partners. In Michalovce itself, we have contacts with whom we cooperate, so you will surely run into some of them. In addition to that, our support team will certainly always be available and in contact with you while being on the ground. Even if they are not physically there, you’ll never be left alone.

  • Minimum age

    18

  • Accommodation

We provide the accommodation on site, which is equipped with everything needed for living. If necessary, the project can cover the accommodation costs, just talk to us about it.

  • Extra Costs

Since we are operating with limited funds and want to spend our money efficiently on the urgently needed goods, we unfortunately cannot cover any costs besides accommodation at the moment. Therefore, you will have to cover the costs for your arrival and departure, your own food or what else you might need to feel comfortable. Please keep in mind that you absolutely need your own means of transportation on site, as getting around by local public transport does not offer any flexibility. You would also have to organise this at your own expense. There is the possibility to take the train to Kosice and rent a car there. Some of our volunteers have done some fundraising before coming to Slovakia to cover their costs. If you urgently need support, please contact us and we will find a way together!
